So, all that crib stuff won't go to waste!

UPDATE. Rowen spent the whole night in his crib Sunday. He slept from 9PM-7Am. I couldn't believe it! I hope he keeps it up. I feel much better at night knowing he is sleeping beind bars.

"The rest of the day is all down hill."

Though I've been to Cataling twice (CIMI Science camp.... remember that?) I've never been to Avalon. So, when Jon was offered an appraisal on the island, we left Rowen with Grandma Baynes and took off for the day. Jon warned me that there would be a lot of walking, but I said that I didn't care.. I just wanted to go somewhere. Off we went with the Thomas Guide, camera, clipboard, and my ingrown toenail. (Can you see where this is going?)
We arrived at Catalina, and it was truly a beautiful day. I was so glad to be there, but my toe was already killing me, and we hadn't even started walking. ANYWAY, we began searching for our 6 houses, and we discovered that the first couple were pretty much on the top of the island. So we walked, and walked, up hill in at least 1000 degrees. At one time this little trip would not have been trouble for me (see the Mud Run pictures), but after having Rowen, and doubling the size of the backside, hiking up that hill was no easy task. I've never felt so close to a heart-attack. Nevertheless, I made it, and took this picture to prove how high we had to hike. All the way up the hill Jon encouraged me by promising me that the rest of the day would be downhill. However, this was not the case. As we continued to look for the properties, we found that each and every one was at the top of a steep hill. UGH. I got a lot of exercise that day, and I did get to see ALL of Avalon. We had a great dinner on the water, and a great day all together, so I guess I can't complain...... much. (I have to see a podiatrist for my toe this Wed.)

My kid is a swinger.

This is Rowen in his favorite place... his swing. Rowen actually has three swings, but his "fishy" swing is his favorite. Shortly after he was born he decided that he no longer would sleep in his bassinet, and would from that point on sleep only in his swing. I've read the books, and I know that this was probably not the best idea, but he was sleeping so long in his swing at night, and all I really wanted in the world was to get some sleep, so I gave in... and now my kid is a swinger. I keep telling myself that he will grow out of his "swinging," literally and figuratively, but I just don't think it is going to happen naturally.
Now, I am a bit of a milk-toast. I have made some feeble attempts at letting him cry it out in his crib, but I feel like my insides are ripping apart when he cries like that, so I give in, and become part of his master plan to take over the household. He'll cry and cry in his crib, and then I'll go to him, and he will actually laugh at me. I swear.. he looks at me and laughs. He know he has my number. He continues to win our battles, and I fear that he might win the war.
However, there is new hope restored in the Baynes house. Jon's mom is here from Missouri to save the day. She is crib training Row.. and slowly he starting to sleep in his crib for about 30 minutes at a time. We'll continue to battle; and I'll keep you posted.

Rowen sleeps through his 1-month pictures

Rowen is 2 1/2 months old!

Rowen gets bigger everyday, but he continues to be a happy baby. He spends his time smiling laughing, eating, and soiling as many diapers as he possible can. He's awesome and definitely the highlight of everyday. He's learning to roll over and in no time at all I think he'll be crawling. We even think he might be getting a tooth... is this even possible? I have a lot of new pictures to post, but it will have to wait until next time.. Rowen calls.

My blog is not pretty.

So, I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate this whole blogspot site, so my page looks a little funny.. but I'm working on it. Rowie took his 2 month pictures about a month ago, so I am posting them now, and next week I'll have his 3 month pictures, so you can all delight and scrutinize the little changes that have taken place in him in the last month.

Hello! (Hello!) (Hello!) - Echo

We're in the house and we have internet, so I'm back. We've been here almost a week and everything is going well, though we've hit many snags.. it took us almost a week to get a refrigerator that we paid extra to have delivered the next day. Mostly we just walk around marveling at our space. The house is 2500 Sqft., which is a lot more that the 650 we had in Rancho Cucamonga. Little by little things are getting put away, and life will eventually get back to normal. Jon's mom is here visiting from Missouri, so she has been very helpful in keeping Rowen occupied while we put stuff away.
